Mpox: A new case detected in the Philippines

MANILA – A new case of mpox has been detected in the Philippines, raising the total number of infections to 10 cases, the country’s Department of Health (DOH) announced on Monday.
The Department indicated that this new case, the first of the year, was reported to them on Sunday, with symptoms starting a week ago, including fever and an intense rash.
“This is a 33-year-old Filipino who has not travelled outside the country but had close and intimate contact with the disease three weeks before the onset of symptoms,” the Department of Health said in a statement.
The last case recorded in the country dates back to December 2023. All previous cases had been isolated, treated, and the patients have since recovered, the Department stated.
“DOH will make the testing process as convenient as possible, so that suspect cases may be identified quickly and allowed to stay at home,” Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said. “Our health system is working. We can handle the situation and will keep the public well-informed.”
