Algeria : The UNODC commends Algeria’s efforts to counter cybercrime

The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received a phone call on Saturday afternoon from the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Ghada Waly.

The UN official expressed her sincere gratitude and appreciation for Algeria’s unrelenting efforts to facilitate negotiations on the UN draft Convention against Cybercrime, which was unanimously adopted last Thursday.

Mrs. Waly shed light on the wise Algerian leadership that paved the path to adopting the convention, especially since it is considered the first international legal instrument exclusively concerned with combating cybercrime.

The two parties eventually agreed to continue the coordination until the official convention endorsement during the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly next September.
