Venezuela : Nicolas Maduro declared winner for a third term with 51.20%

CARACAS – Outgoing President Nicolas Maduro is re-elected for a third term with 51.20% of the votes, announced the National Electoral Council (CNE) shortly after midnight.

The head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, said that with 80% of ballots counted, President Maduro won 51% of the vote, compared to 44% for his main rival from the opposition, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who rejected the results, stating that he won 70% of the votes.

Nicolas Maduro argued that the result is “irreversible,” and promised “peace, stability and justice” in a speech before his supporters after the announcement of his re-election for a third term on Sunday night.
