Sahrawis in France denounce the French government’s support of the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara

The collective of Sahrawi associations in France denounced the French government’s decision to support the Moroccan “autonomy plan” for Western Sahara, considering it a “political, economic and diplomatic error,” which will be “harmful” for the region, as well as Europe.
“If this were to be confirmed, it would be a political, economic and diplomatic error, and the consequences would be harmful for the region, and thus for its closest neighbour, Europe,” the collective warned in a press release.
The Sahrawis called for the right of self-determination as the international law dictates, and added, “this would mean that the country of human rights, and a permanent member of the Security Council, would trample underfoot international law and the resolutions it is supposed to defend.”
The Collective Sahrawi Associations in France questioned in this regard, “how a so-called ‘technical’ government may consider taking such a political decision with such serious repercussions on the country?,” reiterating the looming consequences it will entail, and the need to abide by the Republic values and international law.
