Franco-Swiss Airport Evacuated for Security Reasons

Basel-Mulhouse Airport was evacuated on Friday due to security concerns, announced the Franco-Swiss platform. This occurs as France’s rail network faces disruptions following a massive attack on the high-speed train (TGV) system, just hours before the official opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.

“For safety reasons, the terminal had to be evacuated and is currently closed,” the Basel-Mulhouse EuroAirport said on its website, which is situated in France near the Swiss border.

Basel-Mulhouse Airport handled over eight million passengers in 2023, nearing its pre-pandemic record from 2019, as reported last January.

It is Switzerland’s third-largest airport after Zurich and Geneva and one of the most significant provincial airports in France.
