S. Korea-U.S. “Nuclear-Based” Alliance

The South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said Tuesday during a Cabinet meeting in the capital city Seoul that his country’s alliance with the United States has been elevated to a “nuclear-based” one.
The announcement came a week after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Washington, where President Yoon adopted with his American counterpart Joe Biden the “Nuclear Deterrence and Nuclear Operations on the Korean Peninsula”.
Nuclear deterrance is an international relations theory that refers to a state’s potent nuclear ability to retaliate, and thus prevent potential nuclear wars.
